Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate nursing care to residents in the psychiatric correctional setting
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely
- Conduct thorough assessments and communicate changes in patient status to the care team
- Document care, observations, and interventions clearly and promptly
- Collaborate with psychiatric providers and correctional staff to support continuity of care
- Use de-escalation and therapeutic communication to manage challenging situations
- Participate in shift handoffs and contribute to a positive, team-focused environment
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Active BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Experience in psychiatric nursing, correctional healthcare, or acute care is highly valued
- Comfortable and professional working in a secure correctional facility environment
- Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and documentation skills
- Ability to pass required facility clearance/background checks
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and psychiatric nursing care
- Medication administration and safe handling practices
- Behavioral de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
- Accurate electronic and paper charting/documentation
- Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams and security staff
- Time management and prioritization during busy shifts
