Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert respiratory care across NICU, PICU, Pediatric ED and pediatric floors — your skills will directly impact tiny lives
• Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment (biPAP, CPAP, oscillators, IMV/SIMV, Hamilton T1) with precision and clinical judgment
• Perform airway management including suctioning, intubation assist and extubation in high-acuity neonatal and pediatric patients
• Interpret ABGs and titrate therapies to optimize respiratory status
• Administer respiratory medications and run continuous nebulized treatments safely using Alaris pumps and facility protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams during high-risk deliveries, neonatal transports and emergency interventions
• Troubleshoot high-pressure alarms and lead weaning from mechanical ventilation with evidence-based practice
• Support family education and communicate care plans with empathy and clarity

Qualifications

• Current RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) credential required
• BLS, NRP and PALS certifications required and up-to-date
• North Carolina state respiratory license required
• Minimum 5 years of respiratory therapy experience with strong NICU and PICU exposure (NICU/PICU experience required)
• Travel experience preferred — unit will accept experienced travelers; first-time travelers considered only with a high-level skillset
• Competency with EPIC charting and Pyxis medication systems
• Ability to float across pediatric units and cover call as workload dictates
• Flu vaccine required per facility (medical/religious exemptions allowed); COVID vaccine not required by facility guidelines

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced ventilator management and troubleshooting (Servo-I, Servo-N, HOFV-3100, oscillating & pressure/volume ventilators)
• High-flow nasal cannula, bubble CPAP and multiple BCPAP interfaces
• Neonatal-specific skills: umbilical/capillary blood gases, neonatal transport, intubation assist, care of RSV and RDS
• Medication administration and delivery systems (Albuterol, Atrovent, Flovent, nitric oxide, Aerogen, MDI, nebulizers)
• Chest physiotherapy modalities (vest, Metaneb, Smart Vest)
• Proficiency with airway devices: bag-mask, ET tube therapy, trach collars, AMBU bronchs
• Ability to perform and interpret arterial blood gases and basic EKG
• Experience with continuous Albuterol treatments via Alaris IV pumps and specialized nitric systems
