Shift Type: Rotating (day & night) — primary patterns: 12-hour shifts 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; additional 8-hour options 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM. Self-scheduling based on seniority, every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday rotation; may float within hospital or cover 1:1s as needed.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric nursing care for adolescents and adults on a locked inpatient unit
• Perform regular 15-minute rounds and stay actively engaged in direct patient care throughout your shift
• Use strong de-escalation and communication skills to manage behavioral crises safely and respectfully
• Collaborate with mental health techs, occupational therapy, social work and RT to create comprehensive care plans
• Safely implement seclusion and mechanical restraint procedures when required, following policy and best practices
• Document thoroughly in EPIC to ensure continuity of care and clear communication across disciplines
• Float within the hospital as needed to support 1:1s or assist other units, bringing flexibility and teamwork

Qualifications

• Active RN license in state of practice (ADN or BSN acceptable) — BSN not required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in acute/inpatient psychiatric or state hospital settings
• BLS certification required
• CPI certification preferred (or equivalent de-escalation training)
• Comfort working on a locked adolescent and adult inpatient unit and following seclusion/restraint protocols
• Basic familiarity with EPIC charting
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts and participate in a rotating schedule; patience and a calm demeanor under pressure

Education

• Active RN license (ADN or BSN). BSN not required.

Knowledge & Skills

• Acute/inpatient psychiatric nursing best practices
• Strong verbal de-escalation and therapeutic communication techniques
• Experience caring for adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety, substance use, psychosis, bipolar disorder and personality/behavioral disorders
• Familiarity with seclusion and mechanical restraints and safe application
• Ability to work closely with mental health techs, OT, social work and respiratory therapy
• Comfort with locked-unit procedures, emergency response buttons and campus security protocols
• Basic monitoring and recognition of medical issues in psychiatric patients (RT available when needed)
