Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care and assistance with activities of daily living for geriatric residents
- Support safe mobility: assist with transfers, walking, and positioning while using proper body mechanics
- Observe residents closely, report changes in condition, and communicate effectively with nursing staff
- Help create a warm, dignified environment by assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and mealtime
- Document care accurately and timely, following facility policies and maintaining resident confidentiality
- Engage residents in meaningful conversation and activity to support emotional well-being and quality of life
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification in the state of Maryland
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Comfort working with older adults and a patient, respectful approach to care
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow facility procedures and infection control practices
- Valid ID and the ability to complete required facility onboarding and background checks
- Previous long-term care or geriatric experience is a plus but caring attitude and solid training matter most
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a state-approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in assisting with ADLs: bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, and feeding
- Understanding of infection control, hand hygiene, and basic safety protocols
- Ability to observe, document, and communicate resident changes clearly and professionally
- Familiarity with resident dignity and privacy practices, and basic charting skills
- Strong interpersonal skills: empathy, patience, and the ability to work as part of a care team
