Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, focusing on dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility
- Accurately record resident observations and care provided in charts and electronic records
- Support nursing staff with vital signs, basic assessments, and timely reporting of changes
- Help create a safe, clean and comfortable environment while following infection control protocols
- Communicate clearly and kindly with residents and families to promote trust and continuity of care
- Participate in care planning and team huddles to ensure coordinated, high-quality care
Qualifications
- GNA certification (required) — active and in good standing
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Valid state-required immunizations and TB screening per facility policy
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen as required
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatrics is a plus but new grads with GNA certs are welcome
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completed Geriatric Nursing Assistant training/certificate program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Comfort assisting with ADLs and safe patient transfers
- Basic charting and documentation skills
- Infection control, hand hygiene, and PPE best practices
- Teamwork mindset and ability to follow care plans
- Good observational skills to notice and report changes in resident condition
