Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) environment with strict sterile technique
• Assist the surgical team during cardiovascular procedures by passing instruments and anticipating needs
• Verify and prepare specialized CVOR equipment and disposables before cases
• Perform counts, document intraoperative activity, and ensure accurate instrument tracking
• Collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and techs to ensure patient safety and efficient turnover
• Participate in competency validation: Prime Core Competencies, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam

Qualifications

• Current Surgical Technologist credential or equivalent education/certification
• Experience or clinical competency in CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Successful completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam (per facility requirements)
• License/certificate verification as required by state and facility
• Completion of required health screenings: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, TB test/PPD, Varicella, Tdap, and physical/health statement
• Successful Prime 10-panel (or greater) drug screen and color-blind test

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent certificate/diploma

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of sterile technique and infection control in the CVOR environment
• Familiarity with cardiovascular instruments, implants, and specialized equipment
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and operate efficiently under pressure
• Excellent communication skills and teamwork in a fast-paced OR setting
• Attention to detail for instrument counts, documentation, and patient safety
• Adaptability to different surgeons’ preferences and CVOR case workflows
