Roles & Responsibilities

• Set up and prepare the operating room, ensuring all instruments and equipment are sterilized and ready
• Assist with patient positioning, prepping and draping to support safe, efficient procedures
• Maintain sterile technique throughout procedures and monitor the sterile field
• Handle and pass surgical instrumentation accurately and proactively anticipate the surgeon’s needs
• Perform instrument checks and troubleshoot equipment to minimize delays
• Support the surgical team across multiple specialties including general, orthopedic, ENT, ophthalmology, OB/GYN, podiatry and urology
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide dependable coverage for nights, weekends and holidays

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician training program accredited by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) OR equivalent on-the-job clinical or military training
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or successful completion/eligibility per NBSTSA (3-year qualification) OR current NCCT (TS-C) certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association — must be maintained throughout employment
• Willingness to complete required didactic and clinical requirements and required exams as outlined by the OR
• Ability to participate in rotational scheduling and on-call coverage (nights, weekends, holidays)
• Strong attention to sterile technique, instrumentation handling and patient safety

Education

• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician training program accredited by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
• Or equivalent on-the-job clinical training or documented military surgical technologist training

Knowledge & Skills

• Operating room setup and sterile technique expertise
• Proficient in instrumentation handling and surgical prepping/draping
• Skillful patient positioning for a variety of surgical specialties
• Familiarity with general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, ophthalmology, OB/GYN, podiatry and urology procedures
• Ability to work calmly in fast-paced surgical environments and support pediatric and adult patients
• Strong teamwork, communication and situational awareness in the OR
