Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide primary nursing care to Progressive Care Unit patients with compassion and clinical skill
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and perform continuous telemetry monitoring and strip interpretation
- Administer medications accurately using Pyxis and follow charting in Meditech
- Perform fingerstick blood sugars and respond appropriately to results
- Operate and manage BIPAP and other respiratory support as needed
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and float to Medical, Surgical/Peds, ICU and ER as required
- Document patient care thoroughly and communicate changes in condition promptly
Qualifications
- Active Hawaii RN license required by start of assignment (travelers must apply immediately upon acceptance)
- Minimum 1 year hospital acute care experience within the last year
- Progressive Care/Telemetry experience strongly preferred
- ACLS preferred; current PALS preferred; NIHSS certification preferred
- Comfort with telemetry strip reading and continuous cardiac monitoring
- Ability and willingness to float to Medical, Surgical/Peds, ICU and ER
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and telemetry strip interpretation
- Continuous cardiac monitoring and basic dysrhythmia recognition
- Meditech electronic charting
- Medication administration via Pyxis
- BIPAP management and basic respiratory support
- Fingerstick blood glucose testing and response
- Step-down ICU and progressive care workflows
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization and communication skills
