Roles & Responsibilities
- Serve as charge nurse when scheduled, coordinating flow across a 20-bay PACU and partnering with anesthesiology
- Assess and monitor post-anesthesia patients of all ages (infant through geriatric) and intervene promptly
- Manage airways and provide procedural sedation support, including CPAP/BiPAP and trach care
- Interpret telemetry and obtain/assess 12-lead EKGs to detect and escalate cardiac issues
- Titrate vasoactive drips safely (e.g., dopamine, norepinephrine/neo) and manage hemodynamic support
- Perform vascular access and line management including IV insertion, PICC/central line and A-line care
- Remove sheaths, assist with cardioversion/defibrillation as needed, and support peri-procedural care
- Administer complex therapies (epidural/PCA pumps, chemo where applicable) and manage pain pumps
- Operate common PACU equipment (IV pumps, SCDs, bair hugger, Pyxis systems) and maintain documentation
- Collaborate with ICU teams (unit located across from ICU) to ensure safe handoffs and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (eligible to practice in Missouri)
- Experience working in PACU/post-anesthesia care or equivalent perioperative setting
- Comfort with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio and charge nurse responsibilities
- Demonstrated skill with IV insertion, central/PICC line and A-line management
- Proven ability to titrate vasoactive drips and interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs
- Experience with procedural sedation, trach care, and cardioversion/defibrillation
- Familiarity with epidural/PCA pumps, wound VACs, and chemo administration is highly valued
- Ability to use Pyxis systems and standard PACU equipment

- Sheath removal and cardioversion/defibrillation procedures

- Chemo administration basics and wound VAC management
- Comfort using Pyxis medication systems and standard PACU devices
