Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patient needs in a high-acuity correctional setting to ensure timely, appropriate care
• Deliver and document nursing care according to provider orders and recognized nursing standards
• Implement provider orders, administer medications, and monitor patient responses
• Perform thorough patient assessments and maintain accurate, timely nursing documentation
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and maintain continuity
• Maintain safety and security protocols unique to correctional healthcare while advocating for patient needs
• Educate patients on health conditions and treatments within the constraints of the facility
• Support public health initiatives within the facility, including infection control and chronic disease management

Qualifications

• Active Ohio Registered Nurse license (State of Ohio ONLY) — mandatory
• Active BLS from the American Heart Association (AHA) ONLY — mandatory
• Preferred: One year of clinical nursing experience
• Experience or comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment highly valued
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods and perform physical tasks (lifting with assistance up to facility guidelines)
• Willingness to work rotating night shifts, every other weekend, and rotating holidays as scheduled

Knowledge & Skills

• Nursing care delivery and clinical assessment skills tailored to correctional medicine
• Strong nursing documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) proficiency
• Provider order implementation and medication administration competency
• Triage, emergency response, and basic life support skills (BLS)
• Familiarity with correctional healthcare policies, safety, and security procedures
• Effective communication, de-escalation techniques, and teamwork in confined settings
