Roles & Responsibilities
- Operate ultrasound equipment and probes to capture high-quality diagnostic images for Radiologist interpretation
- Prepare and position patients with compassion and clear instruction to ensure accurate imaging
- Document patient care and imaging studies accurately in EPIC and PACS to maintain clinical continuity
- Consult with radiologists prior to patient discharge to review exams and ensure diagnostic quality
- Provide ultrasound guidance for physicians during procedures and demonstrate relevant anatomy
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and notify Clinical Engineering when needed
- Perform high-level disinfection of endocavity probes per policy to protect patient safety
- Verify orders and patient identity using two established identifiers and uphold HIPAA standards
- Transmit images after hours when required to support timely patient care
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or equivalent (preferred)
- ARDMS / RDMS certification or registry-eligible is preferred; facility licensure as required
- Proven experience with ultrasound equipment operation, probe handling, and diagnostic imaging
- Familiarity with PACS and EPIC for image management and charting/documentation
- Competence in high-level disinfection procedures for endocavity probes
- Strong patient identification, communication, and compassionate bedside manner
- Ability to work in a call rotation and transmit images after hours when necessary
Education
- Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program (preferred)
- Associate degree or higher in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of sonographic anatomy and imaging planes
- Skilled probe operation and selection of appropriate machine settings
- Proficiency with PACS workflows and EPIC documentation
- Infection control practices and high-level disinfection techniques
- Ability to troubleshoot imaging equipment and escalate issues appropriately
- Clear, accurate charting and adherence to HIPAA and patient confidentiality
- Comfortable providing ultrasound guidance during procedures and collaborating with physicians
