Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down Unit, monitoring patients transitioning from higher-acuity settings
• Assess and reassess patients frequently, recognizing changes in condition and initiating appropriate interventions
• Administer medications and treatments safely and document care accurately
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams — physicians, respiratory therapists, and other clinicians — to develop and adjust care plans
• Educate patients and families about conditions, care plans, and discharge needs in a compassionate manner
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to improve patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact license where applicable
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Experience in a Step-Down Unit (SDU), telemetry, or progressive care environment preferred
• Strong assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities; professionalism and reliability on every shift

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in patient monitoring and recognizing subtle changes in clinical status
• Familiarity with progressive care/step-down protocols and telemetry monitoring
• Proficient documentation practices and accurate medication administration
• Ability to triage effectively and escalate concerns to the care team
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining patient safety
