Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform focused pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients to ensure safety and readiness for procedures
• Provide age-appropriate patient and family education, explaining pre-op instructions clearly and compassionately
• Coordinate with surgical teams and perioperative staff to communicate patient status and prepare supplies
• Administer medications and verify orders according to policy and best practice
• Document assessments, interventions, and handoffs accurately in the medical record
• Support a calm, child-friendly environment and advocate for the child and family throughout the pre-op process

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio or compact RN license eligible
• Experience or training in pre-operative and pediatric nursing preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; pediatric advanced life support (PALS) preferred
• Comfort working with children and families in a surgical/pre-op setting
• Strong communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to complete required orientation prior to independent assignment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric assessment and age-specific care
• Familiarity with pre-operative protocols and medication administration
• Skilled in patient/family education and emotional support
• Proficient with electronic medical records and accurate documentation
• Ability to work collaboratively with surgical and perioperative teams
