Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform focused pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients to ensure safe, individualized care
• Prepare and position pediatric patients for procedures while maintaining comfort and safety
• Verify surgical consents, review medical history and allergy information, and confirm NPO status
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to coordinate efficient handoffs
• Educate families and caregivers in clear, compassionate terms about pre-op instructions and what to expect
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and communication in the patient record
• Maintain infection prevention standards and pediatric-specific safety protocols

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) credential — ready to practice in Washington state
• Experience or comfort working with pediatric patients and families
• Pre-op or perioperative nursing experience is highly valued
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; pediatric certifications a plus
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Pre-operative screening, documentation, and safety checks
• Familiarity with perioperative terminology and workflow
• Patient/family education and calming strategies for children
• Accurate charting and electronic medical record navigation
• Ability to work calmly under time-sensitive conditions and prioritize patient safety
