Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia in the PACU, ensuring safety and comfort
• Administer medications and manage pain control per protocols and physician orders
• Perform thorough patient handoffs and communicate condition updates to surgical teams and families
• Provide critical post-anesthesia interventions including airway support and hemodynamic monitoring as needed
• Document patient status, interventions and recovery progress accurately and timely
• Participate in unit orientation and support new team members to promote consistent, high-quality care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (Ohio RN or appropriate compact licensure) required
• Experience or training in PACU care with pediatric patients preferred
• Current BLS required; PALS and/or ACLS highly desirable depending on unit policy
• Demonstrated ability to assess, triage and intervene for post-anesthesia pediatric patients
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and family-centered care
• Willingness to complete orientation and unit-specific competencies

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred where available; completion of unit-specific competencies during orientation

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of post-anesthesia care protocols and pediatric recovery criteria
• Skill in pediatric airway management, IV medication administration and pain assessment
• Ability to interpret vital signs and monitor for anesthesia-related complications
• Comfortable with patient/family education and compassionate communication
• Basic familiarity with electronic medical records and documentation best practices
