Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care using the full nursing process: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate
• Coordinate and direct nursing care across the continuum to achieve the best patient outcomes
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, cost-effective, high-quality care
• Perform patient assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and administer medications and treatments safely
• Develop and document individualized nursing diagnoses, care plans, and progress notes
• Provide patient, family and caregiver education tailored to age-specific and cultural needs
• Supervise unit secretaries and patient care technicians in collaboration with the charge nurse
• Maintain competency through training and skills validation required for the role
• Support the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation mission by delivering culturally respectful care
• Use basic EKG and cystoscopy equipment as appropriate for outpatient duties

Qualifications

• Active Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• Completion of a nursing education program from an NLN-approved institution
• Current BLS certification required
• Basic EKG skills; experience with cystoscopy equipment is a plus
• Preferred: at least 1 year of healthcare experience as an RN
• Proficient oral and written communication skills and comfort with office/computer equipment
• Ability to pass and maintain required competencies for the assignment
• Flexibility in schedule and ability to practice independently within scope and policy
• Comfort working with patients from birth through elderly and with diverse cultural backgrounds

Education

• Completion of a nursing education program from an NLN-approved institution

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong command of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation)
• Care coordination and continuity of care across settings
• Patient assessment, medication administration and basic EKG interpretation
• Clear documentation and medical terminology knowledge
• Ability to interpret diagnostic tests and apply clinical judgment
• Effective patient and family education techniques
• Proficiency with common office and medical equipment and electronic documentation
• Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
