Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care nursing for neuro patients, including post-op neurosurgical care and complex spine cases
• Perform thorough neuro assessments and manage ICP monitoring and EVD care with vigilance
• Manage ventilator-dependent patients and collaborate closely with RT for optimal respiratory care
• Maintain sterile technique for procedures like Foley insertion and central line dressing changes; participate in SIMs Lab skills validation
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team
• Float between Neuro ICU, other ICU floors and Tele units as needed while maintaining safe patient ratios
• Support unit operations, including working into core staff rotations and holiday coverage when scheduled
• Demonstrate leadership by following protocols for trauma-level patients and escalating concerns promptly

Qualifications

• Current RN license for Arizona (or ability/willingness to obtain state license; license submissions accepted/willing to wait)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months Neuro ICU experience required; manager will consider candidates with slightly less but 18 months is the baseline
• Preferred: 2 years ICU experience, ideally in a large (450+ bed) facility
• Level 1 Trauma experience required
• Ability to pass required pre-assignment exams (DYS exam prior to accepting) and pass/fail SIMs Lab skills
• Must be able to float across ICU and Tele units and accept a 1:2 Neuro ICU ratio
• Travel-specific requirements: travel teams must have their own vehicle; natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing

Education

• Valid RN nursing degree (ADN or BSN) — BSN preferred where applicable

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong neuro assessment skills and familiarity with neuro critical care diagnoses (craniotomies, tumor resections, ablations, biopsies, complex spine cases)
• Experience with ICP monitoring and EVD management
• Ventilator management and working knowledge of respiratory support in ICU
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR and Philips monitoring systems
• Competence in Foley catheter insertion, central line dressing changes, sterile technique and wound care
• Telemetry experience and ability to manage Tele patient loads when floated
• Comfort working in a fast-paced Level 1 Trauma center and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
