Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity nursing care in a 34-bed Med-Surg ICU, managing complex adult and adolescent patients
• Assess critically ill patients and titrate drips safely (vasopressors, paralytics, sedation, narcotics, antiarrhythmics)
• Interpret telemetry and centralized Draeger monitor strips independently and act on findings promptly
• Manage ventilator-supported patients, troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to vents
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including attendings, fellows, residents, RTs and techs to deliver coordinated care
• Participate in RRTs and codes as needed and support charge nurse responsibilities when required
• Use EPIC for accurate charting and documentation of patient care
• Learn and operate unit-specific devices (A-lines, CVPs, Swans, CRRT, EV-1000, ICP monitoring) with on-unit training

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to submit required)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (ICU or critical care experience preferred)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Valid driver’s license required at time of submittal (radius rule applies)
• Demonstrated ability to titrate drips and manage ventilated patients
• Comfort reading and interpreting telemetry strips (no telemetry techs on unit)
• Willingness to pass an open-book orientation skills exam (90% required) and comply with unit policies (e.g., artificial nails prohibited)
• Ability to float to other inpatient units (excluding Maternity/NICU) and work every other weekend/holiday rotation as scheduled

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care patient assessment and fast, accurate clinical decision-making
• Titration of vasoactive and sedative drips with strong medication safety practices
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Ventilator support knowledge and basic ventilator troubleshooting
• Familiarity or willingness to train on CRRT, Swan-Ganz, arterial lines, CVP, ICP monitoring and EV-1000
• Experience with EPIC charting system
• Strong teamwork, communication skills and a positive, ask-questions attitude
