Roles & Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage emergency department patients independently, providing timely, evidence-based care
• Document encounters thoroughly in Cerner and follow site-specific clock-in procedures via DocTime
• Collaborate with on-site physicians and consultants (Ortho, OB, General Surgery, Neuro, Urology) for patient care and admissions
• Coordinate ED admissions and transfers, communicating with hospitalists and referral centers as needed
• Respond to house codes and provide department support during emergency activations
• Facilitate diagnostic workups using 24-hour radiology and laboratory resources and act on results promptly
• Support continuity of care by communicating disposition plans and handoffs effectively

Qualifications

• Board Certified (required)
• Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in good standing
• Experience in Emergency Medicine or urgent care settings (comfortable working autonomously)
• Familiarity with Cerner EHR and clocking systems such as DocTime
• Comfort collaborating with consultants and coordinating ED admissions/transfers
• Current immunizations and documentation: Hep B (vaccine series or titer), MMR, Varicella, seasonal Flu, COVID documentation, TB (within 12 months), and TDAP (within 10 years)
• Ability to pass occupational health clearance and participate in credentialing (estimated 90 days)

Education

• Graduate degree appropriate to role (e.g., MSN/DNP for NPs or Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies for PAs) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Emergency Department patient assessment and acute management
• Independent clinical decision-making with physician consultation when needed
• Cerner EHR documentation and workflow
• Familiarity with DocTime clock-in/out processes
• Ortho consult collaboration and ED admissions coordination
• Understanding of trauma Level 4 processes and transfer protocols
• Basic EKG recognition and the ability to act on time-sensitive results
