Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform CLIA-defined high complexity testing across clinical laboratory areas with accuracy and independence
• Evaluate, interpret, and verify test results; troubleshoot inconsistencies and escalate when necessary
• Write, review, and maintain department procedures using CLSI format to ensure compliance
• Establish and maintain quality control programs and ensure instruments meet performance standards
• Provide specialized expertise in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular diagnostics and infectious disease safety
• Deliver LIS consultation and support to clinical staff to ensure smooth laboratory workflows
• Train and mentor new staff and students; assist the laboratory manager with competency assessments
• Coordinate inventory levels and equipment maintenance to ensure uninterrupted lab operations
• Prepare the laboratory for regulatory inspections and assist with CAP/CLIA/Joint Commission compliance activities

Qualifications

• Active ASCP or AMT Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification required upon submittal
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field
• One year of progressive clinical laboratory experience or a one-year hospital internship post-degree
• Preference for candidates with a strong microbiology background
• Demonstrated ability to perform high complexity testing and interpret results independently
• Experience with LIS operation, quality control practices, and regulatory compliance (CLIA/CAP/Joint Commission)

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of CLIA-defined high complexity testing and quality control principles
• Hands-on experience with LIS systems and laboratory instrumentation
• Familiarity with CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulatory standards
• Skill in troubleshooting laboratory issues and resolving technical problems
• Ability to write policies and procedures in CLSI format and lead process improvement
• Strong communication skills for interacting with medical staff and educating clinical teams
• Experience in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology, and infectious disease safety
