Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect and accurately document patient information and maintain organized patient charts
• Prepare patients for exams and procedures; set up equipment and supplies for routine exams and minor office surgeries
• Provide specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT); follow protocols for labeling and transport
• Administer immunizations and injections as ordered by the provider
• Perform and record vital signs and observe patients for changes in condition; report or record concerns promptly
• Assist providers and clinic nurses with treatments, procedures, and radiology exams (per competency)
• Operate medical equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters, EKG machines, cardiac monitors, and manual defibrillators
• Provide cross-coverage for peers to ensure smooth patient flow and departmental coverage

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III required
• Current Alaska Certification OR Alaska Paramedic Certification OR Nursing Degree from an accredited institution may be accepted in place of CMA/EMT
• Experience working in a healthcare setting preferred
• Demonstrated competency with EMR systems and general computer applications
• Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to emergency situations

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• CMA or EMT III preferred; alternate acceptable credentials include AK Certification, AK Paramedic Certification, or Nursing Degree

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with medical terminology and clinic procedures
• Skilled in patient charting and maintaining accurate patient records
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot basic clinical equipment (EKG, cardiac monitor, defibrillator)
• Experience with specimen collection, labeling, and transport protocols
• Familiarity with radiology exam assistance per competency
• Comfortable training others and providing peer support
