Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal, exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography) with precision and care.
• Conduct other cardiac diagnostic procedures as assigned, including EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing.
• Operate and optimize diagnostic equipment—echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, and Holter monitors—to deliver top-quality diagnostic information.
• Manage scheduling, processing, and accurate charging of studies within the hospital information systems to support smooth departmental operations.
• Follow and promote infection control best practices, aseptic technique, and proper equipment disinfection to keep patients and staff safe.
• Provide age-specific patient care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric patients, ensuring sensitive and appropriate approaches for each age group.
• Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor—mentor students from contracted colleges and universities and provide clinical guidance per agreements.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure diagnostic findings are effectively communicated and acted upon.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program or a minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience, including pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography or similar advanced credential

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in transthoracic, transesophageal, 2D and M-Mode imaging and color-flow Doppler
• Experience with exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography
• Skilled in EKGs, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
• Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and charge capture
• Able to apply age-specific guidelines for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient populations
• Strong infection control, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection practices
• Comfortable providing clinical preceptorship and mentoring to students
