Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare sterile fields, set up instrumentation and ensure all equipment is ready for procedures
• Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments efficiently to keep cases running smoothly
• Perform accurate instrument, sponge and needle counts and document appropriately
• Respond confidently and efficiently in Level 1 trauma situations alongside the surgical team
• Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique, OR safety protocols and infection control standards
• Communicate clearly with nurses, surgeons and anesthesia to support coordinated patient care
• Support unit workflow during weekends and holidays when on call

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• Previous travel experience required and comfortable adapting to new clinical environments
• Level 1 trauma experience required — must be able to perform in high-acuity cases
• High ratings on the skills list (demonstrated competency with OR instrumentation and workflow)
• Able to work 12-hour day shifts and accept call coverage on weekends and holidays
• Current, unrestricted license/certification as required by state and facility

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of OR instrumentation and sterile processing
• Proficient in sterile technique, surgical counts and trauma procedures
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in high-acuity, fast-paced settings
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills within multidisciplinary teams
• Adaptability to new sites, staff and protocols as a travel clinician
