Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity nursing care to Neuro ICU patients, managing complex neuro diagnoses and post-operative needs
• Perform focused neuro assessments and manage intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring and EVD care confidently
• Manage ventilators and collaborate with respiratory therapy for optimal respiratory support
• Maintain sterile technique during Foley catheter insertions and central line dressing changes; complete required SIMs Lab competencies
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Cerner to support continuity of care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, RT, and pharmacy to develop and execute patient care plans
• Float to telemetry and other ICU floors when needed, adjusting patient care appropriately
• Serve as a professional unit member and support charge nurse responsibilities when assigned

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure (state of practice) required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• EVD (external ventricular drain) experience required
• 3-6 months of travel nursing experience preferred
• Comfortable with ventilator management, ICP monitoring, and advanced neuro assessment
• Willingness to complete required exams (DYS exam prior to acceptance) and pass SIMs Lab skills
• Travel teams must have their own vehicle
• Facility requests natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men clean-shaven for fit testing

Education

• Active RN license required; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong neuro assessment skills and familiarity with common neuro ICU diagnoses
• ICP monitoring and EVD management
• Ventilator management and working knowledge of RT collaboration
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record
• Experience with Phillips monitoring systems and telemetry
• Competence in sterile technique, central line care, and Foley catheter insertion
• Wound care, patient lifts, restraints, and safe patient handling
• Ability to adapt when floating between ICU and telemetry units
