Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients prior to surgery and perform focused pre-op evaluations
• Prepare children and families for anesthesia and operative procedures with clear, compassionate education
• Monitor and document vital signs and patient status during the pre-op period
• Administer medications and IV therapy safely per protocols
• Collaborate closely with perioperative and anesthesia teams to ensure smooth handoffs
• Maintain accurate, timely electronic health record documentation
• Create a calm, child-friendly environment and support families through the pre-op process
• Follow infection control and safety standards to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• Active RN license for Washington state (required)
• Experience in pediatrics or perioperative/pre-op nursing preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS preferred or desired
• Clear background check and up-to-date immunizations per facility policy
• Comfort working with children and communicating effectively with families
• Ability to follow perioperative protocols and work well in a team environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication
• Pre-operative nursing workflows and perioperative safety practices
• Medication administration and IV start/maintenance knowledge
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate documentation
• Strong patient/family education and emotional support skills
• Teamwork and effective handoff communication with surgical teams
