Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, age-appropriate pre-operative nursing care for pediatric patients
• Perform thorough pre-op assessments and communicate findings to the surgical team
• Prepare patients and families for procedures with clear, reassuring education
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical staff, and perioperative colleagues to ensure safe handoffs
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record
• Maintain a safe, child-friendly environment and adhere to infection control and safety protocols
• Participate in orientation and training to maintain competency in pre-op pediatric care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Washington state or compact licensure as applicable)
• Clinical experience or interest in pediatric pre-operative nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; pediatric certifications (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced perioperative/pre-op setting
• Strong communication skills with children and caregivers
• Ability to pass facility credentialing and orientation requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of required facility orientation for perioperative/pre-op nursing

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pre-operative assessment and preparation for pediatric patients
• Skill in age-appropriate patient/family education and reassurance
• Familiarity with perioperative safety practices and infection prevention
• Competence with electronic health record documentation
• Ability to triage, prioritize, and escalate concerns to the surgical team
• Calm, patient-centered approach and good teamwork skills
