Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, and grooming
- Support safe mobility and transfers while using proper body mechanics
- Measure and record vital signs and report any changes to nursing staff
- Provide compassionate feeding assistance and monitor intake as needed
- Maintain clean, comfortable resident environments and follow infection control practices
- Document care accurately and communicate resident needs during shift handoffs
- Engage residents with dignity and respect, promoting independence whenever possible
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support individualized care plans
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent state certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or required per facility
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by employer
- Comfort working night shifts and adapting to variable schedules
- Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of a state-approved GNA program or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and resident-centered approaches
- Ability to perform ADLs safely and assist with mobility and transfers
- Basic clinical skills such as taking vitals and observing changes in condition
- Familiarity with charting and documentation best practices
- Good infection control and hygiene practices
- Compassionate bedside manner and patience with older adults
- Teamwork and clear communication with nurses and other care staff
