Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a 10-bed PCU/ICU overflow unit, maintaining a 2:1 ICU or 4-5:1 PCU patient ratio
• Manage ventilators and perform advanced hemodynamic monitoring to stabilize critically ill patients
• Administer critical care pharmacology safely, including IV sedation, paralytics, and vasopressors
• Care for and manage central lines and assist providers with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertions and intubations
• Lead bedside shift report and participate in nurse leader rounding to enhance patient experience and continuity of care
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, float to other units as needed, and adapt to changing unit needs with professionalism
• Document accurately in Cerner and maintain compliance with unit guidelines and policies

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (current in the practicing state) or ability to obtain state licensure
• Minimum 2 years of Medical ICU/PCU experience, ideally in a large facility
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
• Proven experience with ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and central line care
• Comfortable assisting with procedures (chest tubes, intubations) and working without unit secretaries or PCT coverage at times
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, cover every-other-weekend and holidays, and float to other units when required
• Strong critical thinking, flexibility, and teamwork skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ASN or BSN). BSN preferred when available

Knowledge & Skills

• Ventilator management and advanced ventilator modes
• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• Critical care pharmacology (sedation, paralytics, vasopressors)
• Central line management and sterile technique
• Familiarity with Cerner documentation system
• Assisting with bedside procedures (intubations, chest tubes)
• Use of IV pumps and lift equipment
• Strong clinical judgment, teamwork, and adaptability in high-acuity settings
