Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and manage complex adult respiratory patients in med/surg, ICU step-down, and possibly the ED
• Manage ventilators and perform ventilator troubleshooting and weaning
• Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and apply findings to patient care
• Perform advanced airway management, tracheostomy care, extubations, and suctioning
• Administer respiratory medications and set up nebulizer, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP therapies
• Chart accurately and efficiently in EPIC to keep the care team informed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and execute patient-centered care plans
• Support a high-acuity respiratory program practicing at the top of its license

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina Respiratory Care license (required)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential (required) — CRT not accepted
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required; NRP preferred
• Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience in Adult Critical Care, ER, Med/Surg or ICU/Stepdown
• EPIC charting experience (REQUIRED)
• Comfortable with on-call responsibilities and working occasional weekends per unit guidelines
• First-time travelers welcome — unit accepts first-time travelers

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong ventilator management skills (Servo I, Servo U, Hamilton T1, V60, V30 — Avea preferred)
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, CPAP and PAP therapy expertise
• ABG interpretation and oxygen therapy management
• Pulmonary hygiene techniques: suctioning, vest therapy, MetaNeb, nebulizer therapies
• Airway device placement and tracheostomy management
• Familiarity with ABL90 ABG machine and Omni-labs systems
• Experience with medication delivery systems and common inhaled/IV respiratory meds
• Bronchoscopy experience is a plus
