Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate post-operative orthopedic nursing care
• Assess and monitor patients’ clinical status, vital signs, and wound sites
• Administer medications and assist with pain management according to plan
• Coordinate closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and multidisciplinary teams
• Educate patients and families on post-op care, mobility, and discharge plans
• Document patient care clearly and accurately in the electronic health record
• Support safe mobility, fall prevention, and pressure injury prevention initiatives
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety efforts

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — NC licensure or nursing compact licensure preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, preferably with orthopedic surgery or post-op care
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS or specialty certifications a plus
• Strong clinical assessment, IV medication administration, and wound care skills
• Ability to work independently on nights and collaborate with an interprofessional team
• Up-to-date immunizations and ability to meet facility onboarding requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of orthopedic post-operative care and common surgical procedures
• Proficiency with patient monitoring, pain control strategies, and wound management
• Comfortable with electronic health record documentation and order entry
• Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and clinical teams
• Strong critical thinking and prioritization in a busy surgical unit
• Teamwork mindset and commitment to patient safety and quality care
