Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive surgical care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings
- Perform common general surgery procedures including hernia repair, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, endoscopy, colorectal and skin/soft tissue surgeries
- Manage acute and chronic wounds within a multidisciplinary Wound Clinic model
- Exercise advanced operative skills and sound clinical judgment to diagnose and treat a wide range of surgical conditions
- Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, CRNAs, PAs, perioperative teams, ED clinicians, hospitalists and wound clinic staff
- Educate patients and families about procedures, risks, benefits and post-operative care plans
- Review diagnostic results and provide timely surgical input for palliative care, pain management and end-of-life decisions
- Participate in departmental meetings and engage in ongoing professional development and training
Qualifications
- MD or DO with Board Certified or Board Eligible status in General Surgery
- Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency program
- Active medical license in Vermont or eligibility to obtain one
- Demonstrated operative skills and experience in inpatient, outpatient and emergency surgical care
- Experience with wound care and management in a multidisciplinary setting
- Compliance with OSHA Category I (bloodborne pathogen precautions) and relevant hospital policies
- U.S. work authorization required — this position is not accepting visa candidates
- Able to commute within one hour (candidates who commute more than one hour will not be considered)
- Not open to LOCUM or LOCUM-to-PERM arrangements; candidate must be able to commit to the full-time employed role
Education
- MD or DO
- Completion of General Surgery residency
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making in acute and elective surgical settings
- Proven operative technique across a range of general surgical procedures
- Skilled in wound assessment, treatment planning and multidisciplinary coordination
- Effective patient and family education and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with anesthesia, perioperative and hospital teams
- Familiarity with emergency department surgical care and rapid triage
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice
