Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert respiratory care for neonates in the NICU, including ventilator management and respiratory support
- Perform neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and respond to delivery-room respiratory emergencies
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain respiratory equipment and neonatal ventilators
- Monitor and interpret pulmonary function and clinical data to guide therapy
- Collaborate closely with neonatologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver family-centered care
- Educate families on respiratory interventions, follow-up care, and safe discharge planning
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the medical record
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance neonatal respiratory outcomes
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the State of Colorado
- Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program (required)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required upon hire
- BLS and ACLS through American Heart required upon hire
- PALS (American Heart) required within 60 days of hire
- NBRC registration/certification preferred
- Minimum one year recent acute care, emergency care, or intensive care experience preferred
- Comfort and experience working night shifts in a NICU environment
Education
- Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of neonatal respiratory care and delivery-room procedures
- Experience with pulmonary function testing and pulmonary rehabilitation concepts
- Proficiency with respiratory equipment, ventilators, and neonatal interfaces
- Excellent patient assessment, monitoring, and clinical decision-making skills
- Clear communication and teamwork skills in high-acuity settings
- Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic medical records
