Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular surgery patients, ensuring safety and comfort throughout the surgical experience
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and the OR team to coordinate seamless procedures
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and ensure all surgical instruments and specialized equipment are ready and functioning
• Monitor hemodynamic status and advanced devices (IABP, Impella) and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Document perioperative care accurately and timely in the Meditech EMR
• Participate in on-call coverage, responding professionally to night and weekend needs as scheduled
• Mentor and support unit colleagues, fostering teamwork, punctuality, and a positive, no-drama culture

Qualifications

• Must-have: CVOR RN experience (candidates without this skill will not be considered)
• Experience in perioperative/cardiovascular surgery (listed requirement: 1 year)
• Familiarity with Meditech EMR documented on the unit
• Ability to work a 4x10 schedule and participate in on-call rotations (one weeknight/week; one weekend every 6 weeks)
• Mature, teamwork-oriented attitude with good attendance and punctuality

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative knowledge for cardiovascular procedures (CABG, valve repair/replacement, TAVR, TMVR, MitraClip, AAA repair)
• Hands-on experience with surgical instruments, bovie cautery, EVH and laparoscopic video towers
• Competence with advanced cardiac support devices (IABP console, Impella console)
• Familiarity with patient warming/cooling systems and cryo systems
• Comfort with 1:1 patient ratios in high-acuity cardiac surgical care
• Strong documentation skills using Meditech
