Roles & Responsibilities

• Round on CVICU, CVSU and vascular patients, delivering comprehensive inpatient care
• Manage discharges and coordinate transitions of care to optimize patient outcomes
• Collaborate closely with cardiac and vascular surgeons to develop and implement care plans
• Provide scheduled on-call coverage, triaging and managing clinical issues (first call from home)
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic to ensure continuity and safe handoffs
• Support quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and unit-based teamwork
• Independently manage weekend coverage and the associated patient census when scheduled

Qualifications

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or eligible to obtain Michigan NP licensure prior to start
• Master’s degree (MSN) or post-graduate NP certificate (see Education section)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Experience in cardiovascular surgery, CVICU/CVSU, vascular care, or critical care preferred
• Comfort with inpatient rounding, discharge management, and independent decision-making
• Proficiency with Epic or similar electronic medical record systems
• Prior locum/contract experience is a plus but not required

Education

• Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or post-graduate Nurse Practitioner certificate

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong cardiac and vascular clinical knowledge and critical care assessment skills
• Skilled in patient rounding, inpatient clinical workflows, and discharge planning
• Ability to manage a variable inpatient census (typical daily averages noted in role)
• Effective communication and collaboration with surgeons, nursing staff, and ancillary teams
• Proficient Epic documentation, order entry, and clinical charting
• Ability to prioritize, triage, and make independent clinical decisions during on-call and weekend coverage
