Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ functional needs and perform thorough occupational therapy evaluations
- Develop individualized treatment plans that target activities of daily living and functional independence
- Implement therapeutic interventions using evidence-based techniques and adaptive equipment
- Monitor progress, adjust plans as needed, and document outcomes in the medical record
- Collaborate with nurses, PTs, SLPs, physicians, and case managers to coordinate seamless care
- Provide patient and family education to maximize safety, independence, and carryover at home
- Participate in discharge planning and recommend community resources and follow-up care
- Maintain a safe therapeutic environment and adhere to facility policies and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR) or eligible for state licensure (California license preferred)
- Active BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to start
- Prior experience in inpatient rehab, subacute, or skilled nursing settings preferred
- Strong documentation skills and experience with electronic health records
- Ability to work the assigned schedule, including weekends as required by the facility
- Current immunizations and ability to pass required background and health screenings
- Professional, team-oriented attitude with excellent communication skills
Education
- Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT), MS/OT, or Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (OTD) from an accredited program
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in ADL retraining, adaptive equipment prescription, and functional mobility
- Knowledge of therapeutic modalities, splinting basics, and energy conservation techniques
- Comfortable with patient-centered goal setting and outcome measurement
- Proficient in clinical documentation, Medicare/insurance basics, and compliance standards
- Strong clinical reasoning, time management, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Ability to educate patients and families clearly and compassionately
