Candidate Pay Rate: $52 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform and own blood bank testing as a generalist, including advanced procedures such as neonatal transfusions, antibody identification, DAT, and Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP) coordination
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and platforms (Abbott Architect, Sysmex XN-1000, Siemens, Roche, etc.) with accuracy and care
• Document all testing and results in the MEDITECH LIS to ensure accurate patient records and compliance
• Collaborate with the clinical team to support transfusion medicine activities and timely patient care
• Float between College Station and Bryan campuses as needed, delivering consistent quality across sites
• Provide education and precepting to new staff or trainees when assigned, fostering a culture of learning
• Adhere to laboratory policies, safety procedures, and quality control measures to maintain accreditation standards
• Communicate clearly with colleagues and clinical teams during critical events, including MTP activations

Qualifications

• AMT or ASCP certification required (Certified Medical Technologist / MT verification acceptable)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience with demonstrated Blood Bank (BB) experience
• Hands-on experience with MEDITECH LIS strongly preferred
• Comfortable working night shifts and floating between campuses (~16-minute commute)
• Willingness to precept and mentor peers when needed
• Candidates must NOT have been directly employed (FT/PT/PRN) by any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI/Dignity) within the past year; PRN employment via outside firms is acceptable

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced blood bank skills: neonatal transfusions, antibody identification, DAT, MTP
• Proficiency with MEDITECH laboratory information system
• Experience with instrumentation: Abbott Architect, Sysmex XN-1000, Siemens CS-2500, Siemens CA-660, Roche Cobas u411, MedTox (UDS), Sofia, Cepheid, BD VPIII, mini Vidas, Veritor
• Strong attention to detail, troubleshooting, and quality control practices
• Excellent communication skills for interfacing with clinical teams during transfusion events
• Ability to manage workload independently during night shifts
