Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with professionalism and attention to detail
- Conduct thorough interview-based clinical evaluations to capture veterans’ histories and symptom descriptions
- Perform focused physical assessments including range of motion testing and muscle strength testing
- Complete clear, timely exam reports and required documentation following VES protocols
- Provide concise medical opinions and addendums when required
- Review diagnostics and incorporate findings into exam reports
- Maintain compliance with credentialing, onboarding requirements, and training expectations
- Collaborate respectfully with administrative staff to schedule and finalize patient presentations
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree with an active, unrestricted medical license (state license appropriate for the assignment)
- Specialty in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, or equivalent general medicine experience
- Experience or familiarity with Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams is highly desirable
- Comfort performing non-treatment, exam-focused assessments (no prescribing or ongoing treatment required)
- Strong documentation skills with the ability to complete exam reports and addendums accurately and timely
- Reliable access to an office within a 50-mile radius of the assignment city for provider-owned-office roles, or ability to work at a VES facility within 50 miles
- Willingness to complete required training (portal and DMA workflows) and quick onboarding
Education
- MD or DO (required)
- Residency training in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery or equivalent clinical background preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in interview-based clinical evaluations and focused physical assessments
- Range of motion testing and muscle strength testing techniques
- Clear, concise medical report writing and structured documentation
- Ability to formulate medical opinions and prepare addendums as needed
- Comfort reviewing diagnostic studies and incorporating results into structured exam reports
- Time management skills to complete exams and follow-up administrative work within expected windows
- Familiarity or willingness to learn VES portal workflows and DMA-related processes
