Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered psychiatric care while maintaining safety and security in a correctional clinical setting
- Observe and document resident behavior, progress, and any changes in condition accurately and promptly
- Assist with therapeutic activities and support individualized care plans under clinical supervision
- Administer medications and follow med-pass protocols according to facility policies and scope of practice
- Use de-escalation techniques and safety-focused interventions to reduce incidents and maintain calm
- Collaborate with nurses, behavioral health staff, and custody personnel to ensure coordinated care
- Participate in mandatory training and professional development during the 2-week onboarding period
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential valid in California
- Ability to pass required pre-employment screens including background check and drug screen
- Comfortable working in a correctional facility environment and following facility security protocols
- Strong communication skills and ability to document clearly in electronic or paper records
- Willingness to work the posted schedule including weekends
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatric Technician program or equivalent training required for LPT licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of psychiatric conditions, behavioral interventions, and basic psychopharmacology
- Skilled in observation, reporting, and clinical documentation
- Calm, patient-centered approach to crisis intervention and de-escalation
- Teamwork and the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary staff
- Time management and reliable attendance for consistent shift coverage
