Shift Type: Rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays (shift assignments vary by department; availability for evenings/weekends required)
Candidate Pay Rate: $81 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage ventilators and life support systems, initiate and adjust settings per physician orders to optimize patient respiratory status
- Perform airway management including emergency intubation, endotracheal and tracheostomy tube care, suctioning, and weaning consults
- Obtain and interpret arterial blood gases and make ventilator adjustments in collaboration with physicians
- Provide age-specific respiratory treatments for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients, including CPAP, BiPAP, nebulizer therapy, and chest physiotherapy
- Operate pulmonary function testing equipment and perform diagnostic testing to support physician diagnosis and treatment plans
- Participate as an active member of the resuscitation team, including manual ventilation and airway maintenance during codes and transfers
- Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments, home therapies, and disease management with compassion and clarity
- Maintain equipment, perform basic troubleshooting and sterilization, and report unsafe or malfunctioning devices promptly
- Document assessments, treatments, and patient progress thoroughly and in a timely manner while maintaining confidentiality
- Support infection control practices and contribute to a clean, safe environment for patients and staff
Qualifications
- Current Hawaii Respiratory Therapist license required (travelers must hold Hawaii RT licensure before start)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care preferred
- Demonstrated competency in mechanical ventilation and ventilator management
- Experience with arterial blood gas collection and interpretation
- Comfort caring for critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) competence required
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; must be flexible
Education
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care (as noted in job posting)
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilation modes and ventilator troubleshooting (IMV, SIMV, CPAP, BiPAP, PEEP)
- Airway management, endotracheal and tracheostomy tube care
- Arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and interpretation
- Pulmonary function testing (PFT) administration and interpretation
- Pulse oximetry monitoring and waveform recognition
- Nebulizer and aerosol therapy techniques
- Chest physiotherapy and postural drainage
- Infection control practices, equipment cleaning, and basic maintenance
- Patient assessment, education, and documentation skills
- Familiarity with EEG electrode placement and polysomnography as performed in sleep studies (plus related monitoring skills)
