Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patients quickly and accurately on arrival to the emergency department
• Stabilize and provide immediate care for patients with urgent and life-threatening conditions
• Administer medications and treatments safely while following evidence-based protocols
• Perform skilled nursing interventions including IV therapy, wound care, and monitoring
• Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses clearly and thoroughly in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, and follow-up care with compassion and clarity
• Maintain situational awareness and a calm, efficient approach during high-acuity situations

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Hawaii or compact RN licensure where applicable (required)
• Minimum ED clinical experience preferred; strong emergency nursing background valued
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
• Demonstrated ability to perform triage, prioritize care, and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work per diem schedule and adapt to varying shift assignments

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Triage and emergency assessment skills for rapid decision-making
• Proficiency with IV starts, medication administration, and basic procedures common to the ED
• Familiarity with electronic health record documentation and accurate charting
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage high-acuity situations
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse patients and multidisciplinary teams
• Knowledge of infection control, patient safety principles, and emergency protocols
