Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor neuro stepdown patients, identifying changes in condition early and acting decisively
• Administer medications and treatments safely and according to protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, therapists, case management) to deliver coordinated care
• Perform and interpret ongoing neuro assessments and telemetry monitoring
• Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, care plans, and discharge instructions
• Escalate critical changes and participate in time-sensitive interventions to improve outcomes

Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license (Louisiana license preferred; compact privileges accepted where applicable)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Experience or comfort working in Neuro Stepdown/SDU or progressive care settings preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage patients with acute neuro and cardiac monitoring needs
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; reliable and patient-centered

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN/BSN) — BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Neurological assessment and stroke/post-op neuro care fundamentals
• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Medication administration, IV therapy, and infusion pump proficiency
• Critical thinking, prioritization, and rapid clinical decision-making
• Electronic health record (EHR) documentation and care coordination
