Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition on admission and throughout the stay with keen observation and clinical judgement.
• Monitor vital signs, recognize changes, and escalate concerns promptly to the care team.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to orders and policies.
• Coordinate patient care with interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless transitions and clear communication.
• Document care, assessments, and interventions thoroughly in the medical record.
• Provide patient and family education with empathy, ensuring understanding and comfort.
• Support unit operations during night shifts, including admissions, discharges, and rapid response situations.
• Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to protect patients and staff.

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (must be in good standing and verifiable via Nursys).
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (DOU or similar acute/observation care experience preferred).
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• DCI/BVP certification required.
• Successful completion/clearance of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, Prime Specialty Exam, and Prime Basic Pharmacology Exam.
• Successful license/certificate verification and a clean drug screening (minimum 10-panel).
• Current immunizations and health screenings as listed: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, TB test or Positive PPD with negative chest x-ray, Varicella, Tdap, fit test as required.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and observation skills tailored to an observation/DOU environment.
• Skilled medication administration and IV/infusion management.
• Clear, concise clinical documentation and charting habits.
• Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced night shift setting and respond effectively to changing patient needs.
• Excellent communication and teamwork with physicians, nurses, and support staff.
• Familiarity with competency testing and audit-ready practices.
