Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide specialized Neuro ICU nursing care for patients with CVA, ICB, post-craniotomy and neuro-interventional cases
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and EKG strips to detect acute changes
• Manage ventilated patients and coordinate ventilator care with respiratory therapy
• Perform and care for ventriculostomies and assist with line insertions when needed
• Deliver bedside shift report and ensure safe, patient-centered handoffs
• Act as charge nurse when assigned — coordinating the unit and providing break relief
• Document accurately in Cerner EMR and collaborate with hospitalists/intensivists and ICU pharmacy
• Float to other Sacramento facilities as needed while maintaining unit standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to work in California)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required
• Telemetry and ventilator management experience
• Neuro ICU or critical care experience preferred (2 years preferred)
• Ability to interpret EKG strips and manage 1:1 – 1:2 ratios
• Comfort working nights and every-other-weekend schedule
• Willingness to float within Sacramento facilities and occasionally mid-shift
• Must complete the DYS exam through UNA prior to signing contract (complete within 24–48 hours, pass at 80% with up to 2 attempts; screenshot of attempts required)
• Candidates may not have been employed by CommonSpirit (including CHI/Dignity) within the past year; PRN through outside firms is acceptable

Education

• ADN or BSN in Nursing (BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Neuro ICU knowledge: CVA, ICB, craniotomies, neuro interventional care
• Proficient in Cerner EMR documentation
• Skilled in ventilator management and collaborating with RT
• Telemetry interpretation and EKG reading confidence
• Familiarity with ventriculostomy care and line insertion procedures
• Critical thinking for rapid assessment and escalation
• Effective communication for bedside report and multi-disciplinary collaboration
