Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the surgical suite by ensuring all equipment, instruments and supplies are available and functioning
• Assist the surgeon intraoperatively with exposure, retraction, suctioning, sponging and tissue handling
• Provide skilled hemostasis, cautery and suturing to support safe, efficient procedures
• Apply appropriate draping and dressings specific to each procedure
• Manage instrument and equipment handling, including stapling devices and suction systems
• Collaborate closely with nurses and surgical technologists as part of the OR team to deliver excellent patient care
• Assist with patient transportation, positioning and total intraoperative care

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) experience (required)
• Active NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or ABSA certification (required)
• Active American Heart Association BLS (required)
• Completed skills checklist (current within 1 year) pertinent to CSFA (document required)
• Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years (document required)
• Work history / profile documentation as requested
• Prior travel assignment history preferred
• Candidates must provide permanent address (facility will not consider local candidates within a 50-mile radius)

Knowledge & Skills

• Operative techniques, surgical anatomy and procedure-specific knowledge
• Sterile technique and strict adherence to infection control practices
• Instrument handling, equipment management and OR workflow
• Patient positioning and safe intraoperative transfer techniques
• Hemostasis, cautery use, suturing and tissue handling
• Draping, retraction, suctioning and use of stapling devices
• Team-based OR collaboration and strong communication with surgical staff
• Familiarity with Epic EMR for documentation and communication
