Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, patient-centered nursing care to MedSurg and PCU (Telemetry) patients
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips and act promptly on dysrhythmias
• Collaborate with physicians, RTs, nursing assistants and the care team to manage patient needs
• Provide bedside nursing for common surgical and medical diagnoses including joint replacements, bowel resections, COPD, pneumonia and infectious precautions
• Float to support the Multi Care Unit and Pediatric unit when needed and adapt to varying patient acuity
• Precept and support nursing students and newer staff, fostering a learning environment
• Participate in unit orientation, competencies and required exams to maintain high standards of care
• Assist with smooth patient throughput, handoffs and documentation in Cerner

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to submit) in the appropriate jurisdiction
• Minimum 1 year MedSurg experience required; 2 years preferred as indicated
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required prior to start
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips; must pass dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to contract signing
• Comfort caring for stable CPAP/BiPAP patients and typical MedSurg/Telemetry diagnoses
• Willingness to float to Pediatric and other inpatient units as needed
• Must meet radius/employment eligibility rules (no facility employment with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity within the past year as specified)

Education

• Nursing diploma, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or equivalent required
• BSN not required for this role

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition skills
• Proficiency in MedSurg nursing principles and managing 1:5-6 patient ratios
• Experience with Cerner or similar electronic charting systems
• Clinical assessment, critical thinking and effective prioritization
• Competence in patient education, infection control and post-op/surgical nursing care
• Team communication, delegation and precepting skills
