Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, focusing on dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and toileting
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Observe and report changes in resident condition to the nursing team promptly
- Document care accurately and clearly in resident charts and care plans
- Engage residents in friendly conversation and meaningful activities to promote well-being
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and families to ensure coordinated, person-centered care
Qualifications
- GNA certification (required) or equivalent state nursing assistant credential
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience working with older adults or in long-term care is a plus
- Ability to pass background check and any required health screenings or immunizations
- Comfortable with physical aspects of the role including lifting and transfers
- Reliable, compassionate, and a strong communicator with both residents and team members
Education
- GNA certification or completion of a state-approved Nursing Assistant program
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and age-related conditions
- Basic clinical skills: vital signs, ADLs support, and infection control
- Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Clear, respectful communication with residents, families, and staff
- Dependable documentation and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently during shifts and escalate concerns appropriately
