Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care using the nursing process to meet complex patient needs
- Lead and provide clinical supervision to Mental Health Workers to ensure safe, therapeutic care
- Perform psychiatric assessments and develop individualized interventions in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
- Administer medications safely and monitor treatment response during medically assisted withdrawal and stabilization
- Manage therapeutic milieu and maintain safety in an adult forensic/intensive inpatient setting
- Float to other units and step into charge nurse responsibilities as scheduled
- Document care thoroughly and communicate changes to the team to support continuity and quality
Qualifications
- Active Vermont RN license or Active Compact RN license required at time of submission
- American Heart Association BLS certification required
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required; inpatient psychiatric experience must be within the last 3 months (LTC not accepted)
- Recent adult forensics experience in the last 3 months is required
- Willingness to float to other units and accept charge nurse shifts
- Two supervisory references from the last 2 years of employment required
- Driver's license or candidate address must be included in submission (living within 35 miles may affect onsite rate policies)
- Must be able to start on 2026-03-23
Education
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required (Active Vermont or Compact license). Degree level not specified in posting.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong psychiatric assessment and therapeutic milieu skills
- Experience with co-occurring disorders and medically assisted withdrawal
- Medication administration and monitoring in an inpatient psych setting
- Clinical supervision of MHWs and charge nurse duties
- Comfort and experience with adult forensics and intensive behavioral health care
- Familiarity with CPI techniques and safe de-escalation practices
- Ability to adapt, float between units, and manage high-acuity patients
