Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and manage care for hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients in the progressive care unit
- Operate and troubleshoot advanced medical equipment, including multiple IV pumps, arterial lines, chest tubes, and ventilatory support devices
- Provide skilled EKG interpretation and telemetry monitoring to detect and respond to patient changes
- Deliver compassionate physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to patients and families from admission through discharge
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement individualized care plans and discharge planning
- Serve as a clinical leader on the unit: precept new staff, mentor peers, and support the charge nurse in workflow and delegation
- Give clear direction to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and support staff to ensure safe, timely patient care
- Recognize and intervene for potential patient deterioration using established policies and nursing judgment
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in the State of Montana
- BLS and ACLS required; PALS required or obtainable within 6 months of hire
- Recent experience in Progressive Care or Critical Care and practice in an advanced medical/surgical unit required
- Comfortable caring for patients with central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, and short-term ventilatory support
- Demonstrated ability in EKG interpretation, telemetry monitoring, and use of multiple IV pumps
- EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, leadership, and communication skills
Education
- Degree from a Nursing Program
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and early recognition of deterioration
- Telemetry monitoring and basic cardiac EKG interpretation
- Management of invasive and noninvasive ventilatory support
- Hands-on experience with central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, and NG tubes
- Proficiency with IV pump management and infusion therapies
- Clinical leadership, precepting, and effective interdisciplinary collaboration
- Discharge planning and continuity of care coordination
- Comfort with pediatric and adult patient populations
