Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients in the step-down/SDU setting, responding to changes promptly and confidently
• Administer medications and treatments safely and document care in the medical record
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and follow individualized care plans
• Provide patient and family education with compassion and clarity, ensuring smooth transitions of care
• Utilize telemetry and continuous monitoring to identify trends and intervene early
• Prioritize patient safety, from accurate handoffs to strict adherence to infection control practices

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana required
• BLS certification required; ACLS and other advanced certifications preferred
• Experience in a Step-Down/SDU or telemetry environment preferred
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; professional attitude and reliability

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Solid assessment skills for post-op and medically complex patients
• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage patient loads safely
• Comfort working as part of an interdisciplinary team and escalating concerns appropriately
