Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients prior to surgery and ensure they are physically and emotionally ready
• Provide clear, compassionate pre-operative teaching to children and their families
• Coordinate with surgical and perioperative teams to prepare patients for a smooth handoff
• Document assessments, vital signs, and pre-op preparations accurately in the medical record
• Monitor patients for changes and communicate concerns promptly to the care team
• Maintain a safe, calm, and child-friendly pre-op environment

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) credential (active or eligible)
• Experience or comfort working with pediatric patients and pre-operative care
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; pediatric advanced certifications a plus
• Ability to follow perioperative protocols and work collaboratively with surgical teams
• Strong communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff
• Willingness to complete required orientation at the facility

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication
• Pre-operative patient preparation and safety checks
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and surgical team coordination
• Accurate clinical documentation and charting in the electronic health record
• Calm problem-solving under time-sensitive conditions
• Compassionate family education and support
